Okay, so your windows don’t keep you up at night (because if they did, the answer to this question would be easy!) but you should still think about their quality from time to time and whether or not they are functioning properly. Go through some of these scenarios and see if any of them fit your situation. If so, you’ll know what to do one way or another. If not, give Masonry & Glass Systems a call and we’ll help you figure out which way you need to go.
Your window (or windows) have visible gaps around the frames and you can feel air moving between inside and outside of your home with your hand. You feel drafts in the room, and even bugs can get in and out.
REPLACE!
This is a pretty easy answer. When there are that many things going wrong with your windows, there’s no fixing them. You need to install new windows as soon as you can to bolster the integrity of your home. Your house will look like new and you’ll have higher energy efficiency as well. You’ll also get better security and a higher home value. It’s a no brainer.
Most of your windows are okay, but you have one that has a large crack in the glass. You worry about it breaking further and causing an emergency situation.
NOT REPLACE!
In this situation, you may be able to simply replace the glass in that one window. Worst case scenario, you would need replacement windows for that one window. You don’t have to do a whole house full of windows if just one window is bad.
Your wood windows are warped or deformed or have water stains on them.
REPLACE!
Once wood windows seep water through them, they hold onto the moisture and start to warp. That’s when the drafts form and there’s no turning back from that. You can paint and stain the windows to look better, but they aren’t going to go back to being energy efficient. You’ll need replacement windows in Webster Grove, MO instead.
You just moved into an older home and the windows look okay. The energy bills are reasonable and you don’t see anything visibly wrong.
NOT REPLACE
If you are in doubt, you can call the professionals at Masonry & Glass Systems and we’ll inspect the windows for you and give you advice so you can have peace of mind one way or the other. It’s hard to know what’s going on with your windows in a home that is new to you.
